What is plant based exactly? What does it mean to be plant based? How can I become a plant based person? These are just some of the questions you may have.
In this article, I will try to give you some answers to these questions and also explain what being plant based really means.
First of all, let’s define the term “plant-based“. It simply means eating only food that comes from plants or plant-based products such as vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, grains, and beans.
Now that we have defined what plant-based is, let’s look at how this affects our health and body composition.
A plant-based diet has many benefits for our health. For starters, there is a high percentage of fiber in plant-based foods which helps us maintain a healthy digestive system.
Fiber also helps with our cardiovascular health because it helps lower bad cholesterol levels and also increases good cholesterol levels.
Plant-based foods also contain phytonutrients which are powerful antioxidants that help fight cancer and other diseases.
Another benefit of a plant-based diet is that it contains less saturated fat than animal-based foods. This makes a big difference when it comes to your risk for heart disease.
Finally, a plant-based diet is low in sugar, so it helps control blood sugar levels.
So now that we know what a plant-based diet is and how it can affect our health, let’s look at what it can do for our body composition.
For starters, a plant-based diet can help you lose weight because it is high in fiber and protein. Protein is the most important macronutrient for building muscle. Fiber is the second most important macronutrient, but it plays a much bigger role in building muscle than protein does.
Also, a plant-based diet contains very little fat and very little saturated fat. Fat is an essential part of any diet, but too much fat can actually cause weight gain.
So if you want to lose weight and build muscle, then a plant-based diet is definitely the way to go.
